Hello!
I am so pleased to be announcing my candidacy for Grand Ledge School Board. As a public school employee for the past 28 years and an active union leader for the past 16 years, I have seen the ebb and flow of education. I also know the importance and impact a high-quality education can have on a student. It is for that reason that I am so passionate about making sure every student has access to a rigorous and robust education.
It is my firm belief that, for education to thrive, teachers and school support personnel need the best working conditions possible. Teachers who have time to plan and prepare lessons, give relevant feedback, and still maintain a healthy work/life balance provide the best opportunities for learning in their classrooms. We have a responsibility to protect our educators from burnout, especially if we want to retain the best educators for our children.
We also have a responsibility to be truthful and honest with our children. Educators must be empowered to teach history and literature which speaks to the current moment. In order to do so, they must know they are supported by their community. As a member of the Grand Ledge School Board, I would champion opportunities to further quality learning environments led by educators for all students.
